the pleasure of uranus in taurus

A8512298-C93C-4D9D-B35C-EE0E9CB41534.jpg

Uranus returned to taurus officially today, to (re)pioneer 8 years of evolution in the first earth sign itself in ways that will unforgettably ricochet into the future. a Uranus transit is like having chaos at your fingertips, ready & waiting for you to (somehow, unpredictably, mysteriously) shape it into sustainable change. Uranus in taurus is a collective transit, meaning it will directly impact everyone at some point in some way while being felt in the public|mainstream. even if you have zero planets in earth signs, Uranus in taurus will aspect something in your chart over the next 8 years/ be showing up in an area of your life with the hedonistic revelations it’s here to bring.

fire sign placements (people with planets in aries/leo/sag) had their fun, their rollercoaster ride, their renaissance de joy de vivre. their 8 year electric revival. their erratic radicalization de ocho. (this sounds hype but we know uncontrollable change after change can actually be a pain in the ass). now it’s time for those with planets in taurus/virgo/capricorn to benefit from hands on experience with The Agitator!

some of Uranus in taurus will not be particularly easy for those of us with taurus, leo, scorpio, & aquarius placements. (those on the leo/aqua axis are like—WTF!?—after two years of eclipses but trust, you’re more equipped than you think for more change). Uranus in taurus is oppositional (polarities & integration) to scorpio, square (creative tension) to leo & aquarius, & conjunct (merged) with taurus, of course. the phrase radical embodiment comes to mind for all of these interactions, which is a nonsequential cyclical practice. you will surprise yourself but in ways that may feel more solid than any breakthroughs Uranus in aries brought you.

to be respectful to Uranus, the essence of this transit is unknowable as the god of change does not operate in absolutes. however, after centuries of obersvation we can surmise that Uranus in taurus is here to revolutionize (never using that word lightly) our relationship to the security of material realms, to sensual & principled pleasure, & to the most foundational relationship in our lives—that which we have to ourselves. of course, there are a myriad of experiences/topics that coalesce into this oversimplified explanation & what we can never do is box Uranus into an expectation of manifestation.

we can anticipate the guild of Uranus in taurus & Saturn and Pluto in capricorn will absolutely change what we understand as “economics”. the entrepreneurial, environmental, & industrial worlds will undergo substantial shifts as has not happened in decades. this is where taurus invites us to center into sustainability, interdependence, & preparedness for adaptation.

this will continue to be a hot topic for the next few months (especially in the COMMUNE) & a staple of astrological conversations for the next decade. your main concern in relationship to this major shift is how it will be traveling through your own chart|life. I will be offering an interactive workshop at some point in honor of Uranus; in the meantime you can book me to talk in great detail about what the next 8 years of the Wise Fool in the sign of the primal, dedicated Bull mean for you!

on the incoming mercury retro in pisces

holding the joy & lightness of the dragonfly close to my heart. swimming in heavy questions requires extra floatational support. this is about Mercury in pisces preparing to retrograde. the planet of thoughts, concepts, communication, & inquiry, among other things, is about to dive real fucking deep (March 5th).

we’re each gonna live through our own experience of this process but it is collective too, especially in pisces. the last sign, the sphere of magic, surrender, loss-where everything comes to a mysterious end. where dreams go to dissolve & to be formed. Neptune is closely involved (the ruler of pisces itself) amplifying this essence—part of which is the practice of nonlinearity.

pisces is not the end in the ways that Pluto is—a death that affirms how painfully alive it all was. nor is it an end in the way Saturn is, a linear concreteness of death. pisces is an end that is infinitely wrapped into all beginnings & can return only to leave all over again. the permanence of impermanence. pisces is, in a word, paradoxical. seemingly simple yet limitlessly complex. underestimated & over-fantasized.

when the ultimate trickster, Hermès themselves, is traveling through these realms we’re invited (a sugar coated word) to deliquesce our safe:arrogant assumptions & habits thereof. our perspectives will be stretched into whatever spaciousness that will enable us to imagine new ways of thinking, of sharing, of engaging. the sacred returns to the temporal in a way that reminds us the separation of the two is an illusion. that surrender just means staying present with what we can & cannot control.

we need not deities or divinity (tho they help) to access the flow & ease that comes with trusting, with ceasing our desperate attempts at propheticism, & being flux enough to answer these: what do you really fucking believe? what’s carrying you when you slip? and if you only ever time travel backwards to heal, could you try time traveling an alternate route? it doesn’t have to be forward, not now, not yet. but it will be soon so where can you go that’s not back to where you were? (unless there are pieces of yourself to retrieve).

queering synastry

in the hands of whiteness & colonization, ancient to postmodern astrology have been desecrated by heteronormativity & the gender binary. this is true for houses, planets, signs, etc. but is never more obvious than in the realms of synastry, which is the analysis of the relationship between two charts, between two people. synastry is most often used to asses the “compatibility” of romantic relationships, but is actually a useful tool for relationships of any kind. however, within heteronormative culture the premise of astrological compatibility is often based on how well two individuals within a monogamous relationship are performing their planets through their assigned gender roles or vice versa— performing their gender through their planetary placements.

the overlapping of gender onto the (inadequate) measure of compatibility is a deeply violent practice. not only is it wildly inaccurate & exclusionary of queer folx to assign gender to planets or planets to gender (it can be fun/queer in contexts of agency), it is an extremely limiting lens with which to explore a chart or the relationship between charts which is ultimately the relationship between beings, human or planetary. astrology cannot be (even as it already has been) constrained by constructs.

astrology is a means of cultivating a relationship to self outside of the kyriarchy—the intersecting structures, systems, & machinations of oppression. binaries have no place in a frame of reference so complex, nuanced, & infinitely evolving. therefore, the aggressive relationship of whiteness to astrology is a threat to the ubiquitous nature of the tool & more importantly, a threat to queer folx & unconventional relationships.

within this critique of heteronormativity infiltrating astrology & impacting the accessibility of synastry analysis for queer & non-monagomous folx, is a critique of the measure of compatibility itself (as it is present in traditional astrological texts & new media). aside from being so intertwined with gender constructs, centering static concepts of astrological compatibility leaves little room to actually evaluate the level of self-awareness, willingness to communicate, & areas for growth present in an individual and their relationship to another person. this is tragic because those factors are essential functions to healthy, satisfying, & evolving relationships.

compatibility can be a useful way of understanding the dynamics of two planets or people objectively, but is an insufficient inquiry within the subjectivity of a relationship because of the presence of free-will. two charts can be technically incompatible yet the relationship itself can be thriving. this indicates that it is infinitely more important how individuals choose to engage in relationship, self-awareness, and a praxis of love than whether their Mars is square someone else’s Venus or that their ex was a gemini & it didn’t end well so it must be true that gemini & their Sun sign could never work.

this is not to imply that astrology isn’t limitless or applicable to almost everything, but that its application becomes limited within a static & heteronormative analysis of compatibility. there is so much more that could be said about the conflation of Sun sign compatibility with synastry itself & even the importance of the composite chart (a more complex method of evaluating synastry) but we can have those conversations another time.

in conclusion, planets don’t have genders, heteronormativity is toxic, & astrological compatibility is a framework of understanding that should not be given the power to constrain your relationships or absolve you or anyone else of the response-ability to change, shape, & be true to what you need while learning how to honor the needs of others. because even in genuine dynamics of compatibility or the lack thereof, choice is always present.

you can schedule a synastry reading here. this will give you information about your astrological dynamics within a relationship; it is not a reading of the other person.

what the fuck just happened: a retrospect on 2018

IMG_5867.JPG

a semi-finessed transcript of an hour live on Instagram. I just went with the flow. if you are in the COMMUNE, you can go back through any lunation in 2018. this is a conversation about the collective happenings. how you experienced the year is really specific to your own chart. some you’ll find relevant and some you won’t because talking about collective transits means generalizing quite a bit.

THE RETRO SUMMER

part of what made this year WHAT THE FUCK was the amount of retrogrades we had at one time. we had our usual retrogrades of Mercury which happens three times a year, and Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, & Pluto which occur each year for a couple of months. that’s not unusual. what is unusual is that we also had Venus retrograde & Mars retrograde as well.

Mars was retrograde in Aquarius from June-August, overlapping with other retrogrades (including Mercury retro in leo at the time). Mars stayed in aquarius until November, which adds to the WHAT THE FUCK element because aquarius can be erratic, chaotic, evolutionary, & futuristic. it is about deconstructing and restructuring in an innovative way. with mars there so much action, energy, drive, & attention focused on that type of movement. while it was retrograde, it was all about reviewing, reflecting, reassessing, & adjusting how we directed our energy in terms of our collective contribution & our own evolution. that happened in a specific area of your chart. Mars retrograde doesn’t happen every single year, it occurs every 2+ years. this was one of the years where the planet of action, drive, passion, & initiation turned inward. which is what a retrograde does- turns the focus on reflection, reassessment, & adjustment. recalibration, really.

aquarius is prone to recalibration because it can look at the entire picture & see the pieces that need adjustment. with Mars there (wherever it was in your chart, but in this case collectively) it was an invitation to change the way we approached change itself—our own & our collective evolution. it was also an invitation to change how we confront. Mars is the god of war so being retrograde meant that where we might have usually externalized our confrontation or agitation, it became internalized. that may have caused a lot of discombobulation & disconnection. it was this really powerful portal for change from inside out. where usually Mars makes change in more tangible ways, it was about slowly rewiring that part of our psyche that is assertive, confrontational, full of desire, action, & drive. that has a lot to do with our sense of self and our sense of power.

with aquarius, the perspective is collective & universal. it absolutely caused a great amount of tension in atmosphere because people were trying to figure out, “how do we do this thing? how do we make shit happen in an equitable way that is also honoring our unique, individual contribution? there are all these things that need done, built, to happen, & be evolved but what is your unique contribution?

for many, the fuckery of a summer of retrogrades created a disconnect when it comes to creativity (leo) or community (aquarius). if you had to individuate or embody your radical values, that created a ripple effect of change within the people/places/things that used to feed & resource you or where you used to find belonging. many of us are now sitting in this disconnect/discombobulation— which is really important to be with & stay with. you’re not going to get what you had before 2018 back. the question isn’t “how do I reconnect?” the question is, “what am I going to choose to connect to now?” everything is different. it’s not that the retrogrades came & made everything funky and now we can go back to “normal”. there is no normal. OR this is the new normal.

that’s important to keep in mind because with the current intensification of cancer/capricorn energy, many of us are going to be wanting to cultivate or create some sense of what we once knew or some sense of what was comfortable & familiar, with what gave us belonging. but really, the foundational structures of that have changed & will continue to change with Pluto in capricorn. Pluto is bringing death/rebirth to the very foundations of our society & our world but also personally to you in your chart, wherever it is. you’re not going to get what once nourished & nurtured you back & that’s okay. because something new, better, more accurate & sustainable is on its way. and you’re actually response-able for co-creating that with the multiverse. for being willing to surrender & follow what has been revealed to you as your path—even if that’s really just a whole bunch of unknown.

THE LEO/AQUARIUS ECLIPSES

Mars retro ties into the other major theme of 2018 which was the eclipses in leo & aquarius. the North Node was in leo until November 7, 2018 so the eclipses were in leo & aquarius for the most part of 2 years. we had leo eclipses in January & August, aquarius eclipses in February & July, and we’ll have the final total lunar eclipse in leo on January 21st EST, which ends the story of eclipses on the leo/aquarius axis. eclipses bring change, they bring these really wide portals of possibility. in aquarius, for evolution/the collective & in leo, for self-confidence/creative expression.

the past 2ish years have been eclipses happening in vital parts of the chart for taurus, leo, scorpio, and aquarius risings. all of us felt the eclipses in whichever part of our life they were happening in, but those rising signs felt it the hardest. if you have aries, cancer, libra, or capricorn rising, we’ve already entered your 2 year portal for life altering changes.

the leo/aquarius eclipses tie into the message of Mars in aquarius which brought the questions of, “how do we merge self & evolution? how do we merge self & the collective? how do we find the sweet spot? how do we integrate?” leo & aquarius are opposite signs. leo is about the individual & the individuation process. aquarius is about the collective & the collective contribution process. these things are deeply interrelated, even though in many of our societies they’ve become compartmentalized.

the eclipses brought attention to how this axis is really intertwined, how your self-confidence & your creative expression is the contribution/light that is needed for the collective. because when you try to do shit that’s not coming from your brightest self, then it's not going to fit. it’s not going to be sustainable, it’s not going to be life-giving. if you’re dying while you’re trying to give life, it’s just this really draining self-harming process. that all had to change.

aquarius does not fuck around. aquarius is like, “this shit needs to change, or else.” aquarius is detached & objective enough to know that the outcome is more important than the ego. leo might be freaking out like, “what about me?” but aquarius is the understanding that we’re one drop in a massive ocean. some of us are more skilled at doing aquarius: being selfless, focusing on the collective— which can turn into this really subtle martydom. some of us do leo better: “I’m focused on me & my shit and y’all can go fuck yourselves if you aren’t gonna get right.”

eclipses are intense but also leo being ruled by the Sun, the sense of self, is a really sensitive place to have so much activity & attention on. right now, in the collective age that we’re in, having so much emphasis on aquarius energy was also intense because so many of us are trying to integrate being radical. what does it mean to actually be radical? how do we embody that, rather than just theorize & intellectualize it? (which is one of the traps of aquarius).

cancer/capricorn is going to really pull us into how to practice that embodiment & how to make the arrangements that we need to internally (cancer) that will dismantle the external structures (capricorn) that keep us from offering our brightest contribution. this year has been about figuring out how to do both. be like, “I’m worried about me & my shit because that impacts the collective.” tend to yourself with the motivation of offering your brightest contribution. because when you’re falling apart & your shit is all over the place, the longevity is short. that is something that capricorn is going to be on our asses about.

a note on transits: when one transit ends or we go through a series of transits & then its no longer happening, that doesn’t mean that the work ends. transits layer on top of each other. if you didn’t begin to untangle yourself. affirm yourself, or get clear about what your brightest contribution is, that’s still work that you have to do & it’ll come show up in another way. transits aren’t the boss of you, they don’t make shit happen on their own. you have to collaborate & co-create.
